ddr3 what mobo?

Asus Maximus Extreme Intel X38 atm as i would like to have a bash at crossfire and ddr3, o orderd 4gb of 1600mhz ddr3 today and need a mobo to pair it with

wow, nice stuff. I'm loving the Asus Maximus Formula SE (none extreme). Loads of options in the Bios, and loads of volts. It seems to be the board of choice ATM.

is there much diffrence between the extreme and non extreme as i found the extreme for 177.06

Bios is the same i think. BIOS has come on miles from when i got the bord when it jusy come out

I paid 170inc for the SE, so 177 sounds pretty good. Go for it I say.

The extreme has better power regulators I *think*. Apart from that and DDR3, its the same!

It all depends on what you are looking for in a motherboard, if you are looking for out right performance then the P5E3 would be the way to go as this will offer you everything and more that you want from a good stable clocking motherboard, but if you are looking for a good all-round motherboard then the Asus Maximus Extreme would be the one to go for.

The P5E3 'only' offers 1.7v on the CPU. The Maximus Formula SE offers up to 2v (3v PLL). I thought the Extreme would be the same?

3v though the PLL is just to much, even the 2.78V that the P5E3 is offering is over Kill, as for the Vcore yes this is the only downfall I can see of the P5E3 motherboard, but 1.7v is more than enough for any single stage action and if you are looking for real benching with some cascade/LN2 action then a simple vmod would be needed to make this a great motherboard

It is possible that a BIOS update/ mod may also offer greater than 1.7V, unless it is a hardware limitation. Even if it is a H/W limitation a VMod will allow greater adjustments for extreme cooling situations.

no asus usualy keep there volt settings for there main board, i could be wrong tho

so today ive now bought this

i expect them from myself, im backing my stuff up now as i am gonan try the raptors in raid 0 with a 20gb slice (got 3 150 x's) to play with, think that should be fine till i can afford i-ram or some good ssd's

i hope the x38's variant of the ich9r chip likes xp raid 0 drivers better than the p35 one
