I hope you guys have a great time. With that chip of baz's you have the potential to rip some records. You need an OVP + inductor modded graphics card to really go for it..

I was really looking forward to it too as I've never mixed ln2 with computer hardware! Hopefully there'll be another event in the near future I'll be able to attend and hopefully contribute.

Have a good one guys, and break some records!

A big thank you to bazx for hosting the LN2 day, is was great to meet others who share this passion for benching and pushing these bits of silicon to their limits and beyond as the day proved, a little to often as the day progressed.

I came away from the meeting with little to add to the team scores, as did others, but I have a bucketful of memories and new friends, who I had only known before as posters of points.

I know the expectations of this forum members was of high points scoring and 10th position in hwbot, it didn’t happen but it will, as everyone learnt a great deal from the event, this will be shown in future results,

Finally thanks for a great day, Baz, Paul, Dave, Andy, Pete, Gary, Pascal and the guys from Intel (in no particular order)

Had a blast guys,a truly great event.Congratulations and thanks to all those that made it.The usual amount of hardware was slain for the (unfortunatley) usual amount of results, but that is the nature of ln2'ing and i loved it.4Qman (Dave) was definately on a roll, his rigs drinking the cold stuff as fast as he could fill the flask, should have put the dewar on his desk and poured it straight in his pot, outstanding piece of benching. The guys from Intel had some very nice toys to play with, which we can't talk too much about, but which i was very impressed by.They were cool guys too, friendly, open and enthusiastic.Pants was great, giving vmod lessons to our hamfisted host, running round pouring ln2 for people, giving an interview to the press, all the while chattering away like a demented chimp on speed.Andy and Dave (Mav and Blindfitter) had a disaster with the 8800 ultra, then 1 problem after another and unfortunately got little to show for day,but they were a good friendly, helpful addition and welcome back any time.Baz,as usual, was the host with the most,no time to bench, but kept ribbing me,cos i couldn't catch his scores, due to my modern mobo's not being as cold friendly as his museum piece of a motherboard called commando, bloody thing, any decent bencher would have killed the damned thing long ago :p.All in all,a blinding day, full of good memories, thanks everyone.

Well, I made it home shortly before midnight and was knackered!!

Thanks to baz the host with the most.

I really did have a good time, the atmosphere electric and to be able to be there and add the little knowledge I had to Dave's (4qman's) hardware was truly amazing - who should get an award for most consistent bencher of the day, with a points haul that was not deserved of the effort put in.

Things I take away from this experience:

1) before re-connecting the wiring to a VDIMM Mod and powering up your GPU, always make sure the VR is backed down to minimum volts - apparently 3.2v is a little too much for DDR3 :)

2) Make sure you (as in I) don't sit down on your piping hot coffee cup, no matter how tired you feel or late it is, it does not provided the desired effect and is much harder to clean up than you realise.

3) LN2 is all guns blazing benching - dont forget tweaks but just make sure you know which ones work best and can be applied quickest, minor tweaks are not as important as actually completeing a benchmark - SHOCK AND AWE rather than stealth - you dont get thos extra mhz for long and the scope of temp to play with whilst pouring LN2 before the unit freezes under to cold or get's too hot (hot being -170ish with 4qmans) is around 10-15degrees.

4) What a great bunch of Guys, obviously I sabbotaged mine and Blindfitters runs just so I could spend more time with the guys and get to know people a little better ;)

5) A username can really stick - it was nice to be addressed as 'mav', felt kinda proud in fact.

6) Being interviewed whilst trying to help 4qman complete a bench run is not as much fun as wandering where that camera would serve best right now (pick an orifice).

7) Buying Phase from 'less than reliable' people overseas often means you get less than you pay for - stick to the names you can trust and whom have built a reliable reputation.

8) When a capacitor on a mobo starts hissing - stand back!! unless you want a 'cap in ure a$$!!'

Thickie, Pants, Baz, Sacha, 4qman, Blindfitter, CPC Morris, the Intel guys and Pas - Thanks to you all, was great to meet you all and put names to faces and work with you guys.

Although it would of been nice to crack off some scores, I was in awe of what others were doing and the whole day was full of eventful memories.

I look forward to seeing the pics and live in fear of seeing my interview with CPC.

BRING ON THE NEXT ONE!!

Well guys most has been said now but it truly was a great event, many thanks to our host Bazx for putting on the LN2 event and providing the fantastic premises , well what can i say that has not been said already but it was nice to finally meet some of the guys there that i have had many a battles with over the years in our quest to be No1, you are all real and not just keyboards.

A special thanks goes out to all our sponsors for providing some of the hardware that we had a chance to play with, it truly was very interesting to see how some of the latest hard wear performed and what sort of results could be had.

Hear are few more pics of the event and the guys.

And the best bit at the end of the day My P5K3 going bang with a flying capacitor.
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f124/waterboy100/PICT0010-4.jpg

A big thanks goes out again to our host Bazx, without his input/ dedication and hard work organizing everything to make all this possible.

I would again also like to thank all of our sponsors Intel and ASUS who provided hard-wear for us to test and try out.

Now that this event has finished i would like to ask everyone to have one final push if you all could with some benchmarks before the end of the year, some are putting in the effort of which i can only say keep up the good work, but there are a few out there that need to get benching and getting some results for there self's and the team, if you are having any problems we can help you guys out if you need help, but please please try to put in some benches before the end of the year if you can as we all need the points in our quest to move up the rankings in world.

This is extreme but I'm afraid a little flawed too. Guys you wanna keep those wires as short as possible otherwise they're gonna end up hampering your overclocks. The majority of vmods are altering feedback circuits and those long wires are picking up all sorts of interference from nearby circuits and infecting it into the modified feedback loop. That noise in turn gets amplified up and will screw with the circuit so much so that in certain cases it means you can overclock less than at stock!

Hi All,
it was a fun day for us Intel guys as well. We did have some interesting stuff I admit, but you guys have some seriously top drawer cooling skills!
I was amazed at the what you can do with Ln2 as well as the different approach to overclocking needed compared to phase or liquid cooling.

Thanks to Pascal for Aqua-pcs for the loan of a great LN2 pot!

great photo's too

Cheers Bazx for a great day's benching!

Hey guys - that event looked awesome!!! When are you planning on doing another one, or is it just reserved for "in the future"?

So did you break many records???

Hi All,

I'm Chris "RabbiDreed" Shaw from Intel. I'm the guy fiddling in the bios during our first play with Liquid Nitrogen.

Gotta say this was a great bunch of guys all passionate about their activities. Sorry for not being more sociable but I was under a heavy virus (only just going now).

It was a pleasure to be there and am already looking forward to the next event. Hopefully we can have a few more goodies form the Marketing people to play with. A dual CPU system with Liquid Nitrogen will happen at a future event I'm sure...

Big thanks to Barry for hosting.

Chris

I can foresee another event of LN2 shortly, I think everybody attending learnt from the experience and wants to try new things out, and those that didn't attend now realise what a good day it was and wish for the next.

Thought though, LN2 costs money, we cant expect Bazx to fund the next, lets show our appreciation towards an LN2 fund, comments

I think having a Kitty would be a good idea. The larger the kitty, the more LN2/ DiCE can be bought. This will also give a firm idea for numbers, and assure the organisers of a strong commitment for attendance.

I'm more than happy to chip in, as i know that LN2 good stuff aint cheap.

I'm itching to get to the Scottish LN2 meet.

I'd have no issue chipping in for the LN2.

Just so long as I wouldn't have to chip in for electric if I brought a rotary SLi cascade and ran it all day, heh heh

I also have no probs with chipping in for LN2.

My report about the event has now gone live, with the video I made. You can see it on Custom PC's website here (http://www.custompc.co.uk/news/601830/video-overclocking-to-56ghz-with-liquid-nitrogen.html).

Hope you like it!

http://www.aqua-pcs.co.uk//ekmps/shops/aquapcs/resources/Image/voltmod.JPG

This is extreme but I'm afraid a little flawed too. Guys you wanna keep those wires as short as possible otherwise they're gonna end up hampering your overclocks. The majority of vmods are altering feedback circuits and those long wires are picking up all sorts of interference from nearby circuits and infecting it into the modified feedback loop. That noise in turn gets amplified up and will screw with the circuit so much so that in certain cases it means you can overclock less than at stock!

This really isn't that extreme, but neither is it flawed. The wires you see in the pic were only measuring points, and the actual mod wires were kept as short and thin as possible, such as this, the actual vcore mod (includes on/off jumper) from that board.

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/peter.jones107/DQ6-vcore.JPG

I'd be the first to agree with everything else you said in your reply though JB and was in fact the one preaching such idea's at the recent LN2 event.
The only extreme part of this modding was the vmch mod which is extemely difficult to get an iron anywhere near it without melting the pci-e slot under which the relevant point lies.

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/peter.jones107/DQ6-vmch.JPG

My idea of extreme vmodding is something like an Abit ic7 max3 vdimm vtt mod, involving cutting motherboard traces to bypass the original vtt circuit and substituting a custom made vtt circuit to do the job correctly.

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/peter.jones107/max3-vtt.JPG

The vmch mod on the max3 was also extremely difficult, involving cutting a trace, lifting it from the pcb and soldering a trimmer to the lifted traces.I guess that's why i have a soft spot for the damned things, awesome board for a trainee volt modder to cut his teeth on and properly extreme.

Feel a bit sheepish asking this, but if you wouldn't mind giving the video a Digg it would really help with promoting it worldwide.

The link is here (http://digg.com/hardware/Video_Overclocking_to_5_6GHz_with_liquid_nitrogen) .

And if you guys frequent other extreme overclocking forums...

Ln2 useage wise, i'd be more than happy to stump up £30/£50 towards it.

Amen to that. I'll be there too.

This site's giving me the real run-around on emotions at the moment - I was gutted to miss out on the Ln2 competition to a pair of 45nm's, but happy to have cracked some nice scores on my Q6600, now I'm really sad to have missed a bench session with all that fantastic hardware but already excited for the next one!

Bi-Annual event anyone? I think those with dead components will disagree :(

Great job guys, I look forward to being a part of it in the future
