I know this is a bit of a noobish question but does anyone have any idea what a rough maximum temp for the northbridge on an x38 mobo would be. Mine sits between 41-46C normally - I would have thought that would be fine but PC probe starts beeping at me whenever it goes over 45C. I'm fairly new to overclocking and just wanna make sure I'm not about to fry anything or damage it in the long run.
Thanks in advance
Hey! Welcome to BenchTec :)
At those temps, I dont think much harm will come to your NB. Iv never used PC Probe, but there might be options to change the temp at which it'll notify you. 45 is a fairly round number, it might be an auto set thing.

47c is pretty much the max for X38.

OK seems like I need to cool it down then just to be on the safe side - would lowering the voltage have much affect? If not do you have any other suggestions for cooling it?

Hey there, and welcome to the forum! :)
Couple of things that would help:
1) Increase air-flow to it.
2) Remove heatsink and re-attach with better thermal paste.
3) Replace HSF with bigger/copper/better one! :)

You can adjust the min/max threshold on pcprobe to prevent the annoying beeping for now,but ideally better cooling is the answer.

I would try running your PC with the side panel off and point a few fans at the mobo heatsinks and the VRMs around the CPU and see what temps you end up with.
