A few days ago we got the unique chance to play with a couple of new toys from Intel at an LN2 Meet

As requested by Intel we can show you pics but we cant go in to the actual specs of the board - so dont ask :P

And as words dont do justice heres the pics :P

Heh heh, it's a quad Sli board dude :D

Only 4 ram slots, 800mhz FBDimms. X38/X48 chipset with two Nvidia MCP chips for SLi :D

My idea of heaven.

Here's a naked piccy of it, pre-SB cooler revision.

I was benching away and didn't even give this a second look.Although it did look impressive to say the least.

When is the release date for this stuff?

What was done with the Skulltrail board? Did Intel turn up and say "oooh look at this, do u want a shot? Do you? Do you? Well you can't because its ours!!!"

Anyone else see 2008 as being a bit of a bugger for Phenom? :) I know this board uses Buffered Dimms, but it should still perform quite well surely?? Compared to the Nvidia/ AMD settup.

Or am i wading in past my depth again?

lol looks to me like "hey lets grab a pair of those swiftech H20 120 setups and stick a huge delta fan on each of em!"

That's the big question, no-one knows yet, whether they are just being teasing bar stewards or they have got problems with the Nvidia SLI licence or still doing testing is anyones guess.

Not sure if using this chipset will possibly cure the memory bandwidth problems like there are with the 5000 and the new 5400. But FB-Dimms run bloody hot, you'll burn yourself on the heatsinks and really don't like clocking, atm 667mhz are out and you struggle to get to your chip to 400fsb (my limit is 365 :( ).

FUGGER over at XS has run a couple of 2.8ghz Harpertowns at 4.8ghz on water and was only allowed to post one benchmark results for it (Cinebench 10). So people wanna see what the overclocking options are in the BIOS, hope it's as good as Bonetrail, for a workstation board that'll be amazing.

Skull_fcuk... It'll be great for Wprime and 3dmark 06 :D

I'll be surprised if it ever sees the commercial light of day because of the SLI licence issues.

They'll be handed out to a select few.

I get that feeling. We've seen this style/ market of board before in the past and they have never really hit mainstream - probably due to cost.

It does look nice though :)
