ok ive come to the conclusion that my overclock is being hindered by a very weak set of ballistix 6400 so im on the market for some new ddr2, anyone got any suggestions as to whats clocking the best (and i know a fair few will say the ballistix but there's no harm in investigating right?) thanks guys.

Ballistix PC5300 2x1GB sticks the ones with timings 3-3-3-10 can easily clock up to and beyond 600mhzz 5-5-5-15 with 2.34v

I see Vento1's PC9600 ram doing over 600mhz at 4-4-4-12.

Those are two rams available today that I would recommend - ballsitix being £56 a set and PC9600 being £107 a set it's really a question of how deep are your pockets?
The Crucial PC5300 is £50 delivered from the crucial website ;) Feel free to name-drop BenchTec if you buy direct from them :p

Damn, that can't be good. Anyway, i'm happy with my Team Xtreem PC-2 6400 3-3-3-8 sticks. capable of 615mhz @5-5-5-18. Definately the strongest part of my kit. £117 from Memoryconfigurator.com (i think)/. Lovely.

well the ballistix are super clockers (usually, but my current set are a pile of tat) but they are SO unreliable its unreal, the amount of RMA's you hear about for ballistix is ridiculous.

I have Patriot pc9600 and they are the best clocking ram i have ever had and at 2.4volts they dont even get warm to the touch.
IMHO the Ballistix troubles are from the DDR1 days- iv not heard much about their DDR2 PCB design being weak??
Annnd...to be pedantic- the ICs on the Tracers are the same, the PCB is a bit different though :p

deary me, just to update, it seems that the ram isnt the problem at all because only my first channel is being recognised now and, thinking one of the sticks had died, i tested them in another rig and theyre both fine, so ive actually now got a duff mobo that can only use 1 stick of ram lol.

I got a good RMA from them. They changed an old 7800GT for a 7950 GT. Me=delighted. It was over a year old too.

My RMA with overclockers is ongoing but so far has been perfect (details compelted within 2 hours) and I am sure will be resolved within 7 days of postage.

Amen to that! Mine do pretty much the same, although can be tweaked to 5-4-4-5@1200 ish. Still can't believe I lived with the D975XBX for so long with the RAM at it's stock 3-3-3-8@800. Ah well! :)
Btw, a head's up about the Kingston HyperX PC2-9600 kit if anyone's considering it - no more D9GKX - it's now Elpida :@ Review should be up tomorrow on my website.
