Right, in November, i bought a 2x1gb of Team Group Xtreem PC-2 6400 3-3-3-8 kit. Now, when i unpacked it, i noticed it said 667 on the side instead of 800. I ignored it thinking i'd simply made a mistake with how the number gets changed (like FSB 400=800 type thing).

Now, i've noticed these sticks DON'T run @ 3-3-3-8 even at stock. I'm beginning to think i've been sent the same set as Prosser has, 4-4-4-10.

They work fine, and overclock well, but having paid for a set of DDR 2 800 PC-2 6400 3-3-3-8, i'm feeling a bit cheated. I've contacted www.memoryc.com (http://www.memoryc.com) asking if they can send me out the kit i paid for, and i'm still waiting for a reply. Being Sunday, i'm not holding my breath.

I just can't believe i've been so stupid! Have i got a hope of getting these swapped out? Or am I deluding myself? Will it matter that i've been using these things? Hopefully they don't read this forum, and see that i've had them up @1260mhz with 2.5vdimm! :(

I just can;t help but think, if this is a lesser set and it clocks to 1260mhz, what the hell will the faster 800mhz stuff clock to?? Damn. *rubs hands*

Probable no more, or even less,
The spec is their guaranteed speed setting at a given voltage, any more and it your bonus, as is most hardware today.

It all has to do with tolerance factor, the hardware has to work worldwide in many differing conditions, i.e.: damp humid, dry, high temps equator countries, low temps polar regions and not forgetting customer misuse, all of these factors are taken into consideration when a manufacturer guarantees a product at said spec. as I said before it a bonus to us if we can raise the numbers.

Agreed.

Just look at the crucial ballistix PC5300 they generally cloack as high as the PC8500's.

What you get when you buy a set are based higher value (PC8500 instead of PC5300) is essentially the same chips on the smae pcb with the same cooler but were actually tested to run at those speeds.

Overlocking ram is a gamble like overclocking CPU's - there's as much chance that any replacement will run worse than what you already have, 1260mhz is 630mhz so I would say looking at most DDr2 RAM you have a decent set already as the spectrum of overclockcs for ram is anything from 575-650 (some do even better but they are in the minority).

Also, the overclok limit of your ram can be as much attributed to your motherboard as it can the ram itself.

With 630mhz being at the higher end of achievable clocks on DDR2 ram you have more to lose than you do to gain by changing them.

If it were me I'd be happy with what I have, of course not having a higher rated module could effect the resale value on ebay, but for us guys, all we want to know is how well they clock.

K404 is our resident RAM expert but I think what say above is right.

Yeah, i too thought about the possibility of getting a poorer clocking set. Wouldnt be a happy moment.

Damn, i'm torn!

I'd personally be happy with what you;ve got out of them and ask for a part refund in the difference in cost.

What exactly have you got these sticks up to/ timings etc?

So far, highest is 1260mhz :@ 5-6-6-18. I was about ready to fall off my seat by then :p

part refund if you can.
my reaper 9200, out of the 4 sets ive had, my present one is one of the worse sets. this set will just manage 620 on 5-4-4-10 where as the last set would do 640 on 5-4-3-8(still got one stick :D ) and did do 666 @ 5-6-6-17.

meh, I'm yet to see over 600MHz with any of my RAM :(

Let us know how you get one :)

Hell, I paid £150+ 3 months ago for that
But can get 1367mhz but timings..?? Not a chance of anything less than standard. BTW, CPU-Z see's them as PC-5300 eek.! :p

^^^ same here. shows it as pc 5300. the stuff that will do 1300+ shows as 6400

cpuz showsa that as the ram has to have a 1.8v timings on so they will post without a bios voltage increase otherwise u would need special ram to post @ 1.8v so you could go into bios and change the ram to 2.2v+

iirc the ocz flex needs a seperate stick of that for that

^^ odd, mine autos to 2.1v after one reboot.

I got a reply from them, asking for pics of the packet and the sticks. I'll get that to them on thursday. Watch this space!!
