I just thought i would post my ideas/thoughts for my forum wars system as i am looking forward to the challenge. As usual kid in a sweet shop just want everything. Still i have two main ideas 1) dfi lanparty lt x38-tr2 + E8400/E8500 + screaming ddr2 still to be decided. I have a swiftech h20-220+ kit which i am using at the moment. My plan would be water cool nb + cpu + gfx.
2) Use my msi p35-neo2fr + E8400/E8500 + screaming ddr2 still to be decided. Then water cool cpu + gfx.

The question is there any great advantage to wc nb or will my p35 be enough. I know that on a friends system with a p5e3 deluxe his 8800gt does seem to benefit from pci-e 2.0 as mine would on the lanparty. Also would be nice to hear what everyone else is doing.

When are you thinking of purchasing the new system? Are you planning on purchasing just before the event, or some time soon?

What are your current NB temps - does it get toasty on air?

I'm planning on buying a high-end system just before the war begins - surprise attack! :waiting:

Well i plan on having it all sorted by end of feb. At the moment i have no issues with temp on nb but with 45nm able to take high fsb thought i may give me an edge. Also while my p35 is good the voltage options on the dfi are crazy and fine tuning overclocks would be nice as the bios updates for my board are not that great from what i have read so maybe dfi is better option. Plus would like to kick some ass:biggrin:

SoddemFX once told me that the BIOS for a DFI board was designed by god himself! But the VRM was made by a vagrant called Bob for half a bottle of white lightning!

DFI boards can be the most awkward niggly boards on the planet! Some just work, others will make you want to throw your computer out the window! My DFI NF2 Ultra Infinity B was a nightmare killed 2 sticks of crucial ballistix at 2.8V?!?! But it overclocked like mad! With some BH-5 it got my XP-M to 3.0GHz.
Just be aware that a DFI can take a lot of tweaking and getting used to.

As for chipset cooling 965/975 and especially i680 respond well to cooling especially sub-zero. Not sure if P35 follows suit but I doubt it would hurt.

I have heard that dfi bios is hard to get used to but once you do the rewards are great. Also i got nothing but time lately so would be nice to have something to keep me out of trouble. The one thing about the dfi is that it looks easy to do some things like wc nb + lap PWM heatsink just little mods that make a big difference from what i have read so far.

My old DFI RDX200CF-DR was by far the buggiest and most stubborn board I have ever had, but I did love it so :)

I'm hoping to go for a E8400 and a 8800GT/9*** before it starts, but watercooling comes first :D

DFI's are like old grumpy cars. Well, my Ultra D was but somehow i know i would have another. I just think, even now, i still never reached that boards full potential.

Sorry to hear that. Pics would be good in a new thread if at all possible?

How quick are the RMA turn arounds for them?

I'm going to hold off so that I can see which board is best at the time. Hopefully there'll be a slightly more reliable selection to choose from!

Well i have just ordered this Transcend 2GB Kit DDR2-1200 aXeRam. They are hand picked micron d9's 1200mhz at 2.2v sounds good. I will be keeping my msi p35-neo2fr and getting an e8400 so as soon as i have everything i will post in the forum wars hardware specification thread. I am waiting for scan to get their stock as will probably be about £10 cheaper and maybe a little more with my trade discount.:waiting:
