got a 3870 today and gave it a go to get max clock on stock cooler

the highest i could get to bench at was 890MHz core and 2800MHz mem, altho the 2800 on the mem did show alot of artifacting it didnt cause it to freeze.

Note, this was on vista and quad was only at 3.2GHz. at stock, the SM2 and SM3 scores were 4200 and 4400

Just had a peek on HWbot and you're not far off some guys using water with that score which is always nice on a stock cooler 'ey! :)

What are your plans with it? Are you going to run it on XP?

You can volt mod the cards and get higher clocks even witht eh stock cooler on thee puppies- see pants_marshall's scores for more details :)

yep, i had fan on 100% and got 39-42c full load at 890 core, now i just need to find that pencil mod again, but first i need a volt meter, anyone care to lend?:p

ive also got 2 of these coming so would be good to see what they do under LN2 at the scotland event

hello RaiderX303 :)

best thing to do is lower your ram clocks and up your core, i can run my 3870 with 1.46-7 volts(reading taken from idle-it ups to 1.59 under load;)) with the fan on 100% - temps are hitting 60-65c, lower the ram down to 1314mhz and up the core to 900+ depending on your ambient temps.

i tried it with the ram at stock and still couldnt get over 890MHz on the core.

Try re-seating the cooler with some MX2 ;)

im only getting 41c full load with fan on 100%, would be strugling to get cooler on water

you need more volts to get the higher clocks, the only real way of getting precise voltages is by hardmodding the card with a variable resistor and a multimeter. I spanked the living shit out of my card last week having reached almost 1.6v to the core.......soon it'll be going through it again :D

I'am also using the stock cooler and i havent even touched it to change the paste.
