When I see the American prices I normally convert them to £'s and then plus the 17.5% that we're forced to pay. That would work out at £270, which seems about right to me. HD3670 Crossfire might be ok...

If there that price i will be forced to sell my GTS

Be seriously stoopid if it does considering u can already buy 2 x 3870's for less than that

Personally I think that all these cards being released by NV & ATI at the moment are just a sneaky way to sell all of the older chips they have laying around before they release the big guns...

I'm gonna wait till March time & get me a new 9800GTX, which will be totally new technology & pretty much wipe the floor with anything around now and also due for realease between now & March... Even the nVidia "Frankenstein" (GX2) Due mid Feb i think will be way behind the proposed 9800GTX...

Well... 2 3870s are about £270-290, and the X2 means you can have 4.... still doubling the power over whats currently available!

Yea, but the fact that the X2 is all in 1 card shud theoretically make it cheaper not more expensive

PCB design and extra components mean that aint gonna happen :(

Plus if it comes out before the nV equiv, it will be the most powerful GPU available, so in harsh black and white we should be "grateful" for any price tag <£400. ATI know this.

I'm not 100% sure about that. I've heard that the 9800GTX that will be released is basically a G92 core with a few improvements, i.e higher clock speed, faster memory and/or more likely - more stream processors.

We're going to have to wait until D10E, G100, Geforce 10, Geforce X or whatever it's going to be called for a significant update.

As far as I know the only 9800 card to be released will be the 9800 GX2 which is rumoured to be fitted with 2x 8800GTS cores and 2x 512MB RAM - and knowing what AMD is about to release Nvidia really doesn not have to do anymore than that.

I have not seen any rumours/evidence of any other 9800 based card coming, is the 9800GTX confirmed? Or is that the name given to the dual GPU unit that we refer to as the GX2?

Only evidence/rumours I ahev seen after this suggest that the next big NVIDIA release will be between October and December this year and that it will be a brand new GPU not a tweaked G9X.

But given that the GTS is already faster than the 3870, it's fair to assume that the GX2 will be quicker than the 3870X2 (I would expect UK cost to be around £380 for the GX2 Though) - it wont be long after release of this card that we will see significant price reductions in the 3870X2 which will make it the 2nd fastest card available and at a price that will be hard to ignore.

Should that price reduction occur, Nvidia will (hopefully) follow suit and a consumer friendly price war should ensue

It's interesting that Nvidia have not yet gone to DDR4 (I think thats correct?), OT but does anyone know why?

What you've said makes sense. I guess that they haven't gone to DDR4 due to costs - as it makes sense to use the tried and tested (and cheaper) DDR3 and save the DDR4 for their big release later in the year.

Not long now.

HIS card is currently 'hidden' on OcUK

Yeah, I wasn't suggesting that it was coming out soon, or when it was coming out. I can't remember where I read it, so it may just be pie in the sky. My guess is that it's a card that nVidia *could* release if they wanted to (read: if ATI release a single card solution to rival the 8800 Ultra).

As for the battle of the dual cards, I think nVidia will set their price and not budge. There's enough nVidia fanboys nowadays for them to price a product where they want to. Just look at the HD 3000 series vs nVidia G92. ATi, much better price/performance, but the G92 cards are still flying off the shelves.

Looking at performance, just 'cause a GTS is quicker than a 3870, it doesn't necessarily make the GX2 better than the X2. Crossfire scales better...when it works. That'll make it interesting. I see it as a battle of the driver teams.

As for GDDR4, yes, it costs more for little gain. They're probably going to skip GDDR4 in favour of GDDR5 as it's not that far away.

I dont think its a case of fanboyism that keeps he robust price model.

Just my opionion - Currently (as was the case in 2007) Nvidia have the fastest cards available and because of that they can command a premium - heck the GT and GTS are both still more expensive than the Nvidia RRP from most etailors.

Having said that prices have dropped since launch so the price can still come down, but for that to happen teh competition needs to be as robust or so cheap that they reall have no choice ;)
