Does anyone know anything about this unit by Johann:

http://www.arcticx.com/forum/johann.jpg

I found this info on XS which could be a related log, but I'm not at all sure:

This unit was initially used for experimenting, the experiments and testing went great so I finished it off in a basic benching setup, 1 metre flexline with on/off switch.

I have to say I have had some very pleasant benching sessions with this one sofar, the suctionline reaches everywhere and its very cold. Strangely enough the 14cc Electrolux compressor is rather silent and really powerfull

Specs:

Compressor: Electrolux MP14FB R404a/R507a
Evap: Chilly1 rev e Captube: 2.6m 0.031
Suction flex: 1 metre 3/8 braided
Gas R402a (Mostly )
Controller: none

Temps:

idle: -70c
150w resistor load: -48c
185w resistor load: -44c

On my coldbugged opty 146 at 2.65Ghz 1.68v it pulls -55c and at 3Ghz 1.75v it pulls -53.5c loaded temps.

This unit laughs at high loads, not that the above loads are high but the drop from the voltage and Mhz increase is almost nothing and it pulls the 185w tester to great temps.

Any info would be appreciated :)

Its a nice unit and a powerful one :)

Although its tuned for 185w Load so id imagine a retune for clocked Quads.

Well I know that Johann built some great units, and as I've been without an SS for a couple of years now I thought 'why not' if the price was right!

I imagine that it won't be gassed/ tuned for a hefty heatload, but then again a lot of Johann's units seemed to handle load well. I'll have to wait and see how it performs, but I'm sure I won't be dissapointed :)

I've only been holding off for so long as Gray Mole still hasn't got my custom SS back to me and he seems to have disappeared :(

I'm really looking to see if anyone here knows any history of the unit, as the seller doesn't seem to know a lot about it at all

Went for £255 in the end which was pushing what I wanted to pay, but figured it was still cheaper (and less hassle) then having another custom unit built up. Plus, it is within collection range, so I can ensure that it's all functioning fine and then bring it safely home :)

It's a shame I don't have any history for it, and it appears that nobody seems to know much about it :(

£255 not too bad. Dont think its as in your original post as
with on/off switch.

as it has a controller

£255 way OTT for the unit personly. Not that great of a build, can be better!

I thought that the controller could have been added later for re-sale purposes? It's as close as I could find

It's looks pretty decent to me as it's sure to be better than a vapo or mach and for £255 all in with better evap, fitting kit, gas (and the fact it's a Johann unit - well built, which is a bit of history now), I'd say that it's a good price - but that's why I bought it :p

I've got a thing for collecting computer coolers with a history; I have secret hoard waiting to be unleashed :waiting:

I only know for sure that the compressor is an Electrolux ML90FB 404A rather than the usual n11 which is a nice change. Also has the GFroster controller, probably the v1.6 looking at the age of the unit.

I'll detail it once I have it :)

Stocky, Johann documented most of his builds on XS so you may find the answers your looking for there!

I have a SS of his and it's a great build been running now for more than 2 years, not needed gasses and has coped with my transistion from dual to quad core fantastically.

Really?! Do you have any more details (esp. of how it handles the higher heatload) or pics of the unit - I really like seeing individual units, so am very interested :)

Looks like the is the thread he used to dell it the first time round...Looks like there's a few more photos there for you (they're red X's for me, but I think that's due to work restrictions).

Just found the thread you got the 1st post info from:

Reading on down through Johann's replies gives a little more insight :)

on the thread listed above mines the BenchBox - actually I swappedit for black mamba. IT's a great SS, using a blend of gases )though I have no idea what - wasn't my thing back then so didnt pay attention, might go looking through old PM's etc) currently it ca nhold a Q6600 with 1.7volts at about -50oC loaded so I cannot complain. Idles at -66oC

That sounds like you have an awesome unit there - probably more of the thing I'm after, but when I get some real money I'll have one built :)
