View Full Version : foxconn and cascades
For the first time this year i have a combo that’s working for me
Since the death of my last great m/b (asus commando) i have been looking for a motherboard that had all the voltages i needed and tough enough to handle -100c temps
the foxconn mars not only delivered that but a fsb on my QX9650 of 480
Only mod to m/b is vdroop
Rig
Motherboard: foxconn mars
Ram: ddr2 supplied by crucial via k404 Ballistix 4.4.4.12
CPU retail: QX9650 1.88v
8800 ultra 1.6v/2.15v
Cooling
Cascade 4: CPU R507/R23/R1150 -110c

Awesome stuff!
What kind of feel are you getting from the Foxconn board? How is the layout? What is the BIOS like?
I don't think I've ever had a Foxconn board (only little bits made by them!), and would like some feedback :)

the m/b reminds me of the dfi there are many extra settings for ram in the bios
also a very good set of voltages
it did need a bios flash to a beta bios to work well tho G29

That is some supreme stuff bazx.
Keep up the great work. :)

How did the BIOS flash improve things? I'm considering flashing mine, but it seems to be working okay at the moment.
It does have a problem though where it gets stuck when you turn it on, like the restet button is being held down! A CMOS clear fixes it though, but it's a pain as I have to wait a few mins for the G-Froster timer to clock back down again!
I was hoping to get some benchies in today, but it is takin gme a while to get use to the setup....

Another thing that I found is that I can't set the multiplier. After I change it, it keeps defaulting back to 'x9' :(

You need to do a bios update like baz did as his done the same thing as you are seeing.

That sounds a lot easier to me! Do you have a link to the download tool, as it didn't come up in the utility search on their site?

I flashed to G29, but it still won't stick with a changed multiplier. I can only use x9 as I've tried x8 and x10 but it either fails, or BOOTS as x9 :(
Any ideas? :help:
I'm going to try BIOS P11, which is the latest official release and hope that works... :coffee:

yes i did but imo i dont think the pci slot will allow much more data thro it and will bottle neck soon
the way to get scores from these units imo is the cpu
go for real high clocks on the cpu and just leave the card on air or water
ps it looks like i edited your post but i did not i just hit edit instead of quote:huh:

I think you were right as it did the same thing with P11 until I cleared and manually re-entered the overclcok settings! Nevermind, but I'm happy with P11 as everything is working - plus I get scared during the flashing process!
Popping back out to the garage now to try and get some 3D results in, but I doubt that they'll even come close to yours!

no just 1 well i think lol
but even if its 2 i still think there will be a limit on how much you can cram thro it

Yes baz this M/B is only PCI Express Bus specification v1.1 compliant, i have just made sure and taken a look at there web site spec, this would have held you back in all the benches, i would have thought with having a X16 2.2 PCI-E slot you would gain around anouther 1000 points on this score allone.

Any ideas why the USB on this doesn't work at all? I just tried pluggin my USB fob in and it doesn't light up or anything?! I've installed the chipset driver package for the mobo, but nothing still. I thought XP had USB support anyway, but no luck. I hope I don't have another faulty board or something...

after you re set the bios did you go check the settings?
i would guess usb controler is disabled
also you will need to check system/hardware/device manager to see if
the usb controler is installed
