Been a bit of a 'Busy Benching Bee' myself this weekend.
Finally got my mitts on one fo these QX9650's.
Cooled by mini rotary cascade
2x 1GB Sticks of Corsair DDR1800 7-6-7-24 (with thanks to Corsair for providing them.)
P5K3 DlX Mobo - Persivore volt modded
Watercooled 8800ultra, no mods (710/1850/1170)
I-Ram
80GB IDE drive
4x 250GB SATA2 Hitachi drives in Raid 0 for PCMark05
Firstly the issue I cam up with:
1) FSB limitation of the board or CPU, max 450mhz with x10 but as multi went higher FSB went lower - best was 433mhz x12.
2) Setting up for 45nm is compeltely different to setting up for 65nm intel cpus - required volts are much lower in every aspect and the higehr the clock went the more 'twitchy' it all feels.
3) Overclocking PCI-E bus in BIOS instead of using SET FSB corrupted windows install.
4) FSB limit proven by switching to E6580 that runs all day at 500mhz x8 on everyday machine at 1.45v - could only muster 460fsb on the P5K.
5) CPUZ does not read the clocks correctly on teh QX with this board.
6) The unbelieveable whining and vibration of the rotary cascade which mande the whole of upstairs vibrate and caused the neighbours to come round and complain last night
Positives:
1) The corsair ram, although I could not get enough cpu FSB to push the 2000mhz barrier, they did exactly what they were supposed to do - rock solid performance set at 7-7-7-24-60 2T all day with out any worries - the supplied triple fan cooler was quiet and effective (24 degree ambient and ram sticks measured at 32degs under load with 2.3v) - this ws one component that I did not have to be concerend with thoughout the trials of the weekend.
2) Up to 5398mhz on the QX9650 - not stable, but what a clock.
3) The ultra unmodded running 3DM06 at 712/1850/1170, modded under normal water, compared to my old unit under stock would easily reach 780mhz.
4) I believe a decent points haul for the team.
5) Regained the No1 spot in CPC :)
So what was finally achieved with all of the above? Here it comes:
1) 286k in AQM3 http://www.hwbot.org/result.do?resultId=689859
2) 88k in 3DM01 http://www.hwbot.org/result.do?resultId=689767
3) 55k in 3DM03 http://www.hwbot.org/result.do?resultId=689768
4) 26k in 3DM05 http://www.hwbot.org/compare.do?resultId=689783
5) 18k in 3DM06 http://www.hwbot.org/compare.do?resultId=689765
6) 18s in pifast http://www.hwbot.org/result.do?resultId=689860
7) 8.6s SuperPi 1m http://www.hwbot.org/result.do?resultId=689862
8) 4m 25.4s in wprime1024 http://www.hwbot.org/result.do?resultId=689864
9) 8.22s in wprime 32 http://www.hwbot.org/result.do?resultId=689865
All in all not a bad weekends work.
Thanks again to Corsair for the loan of the RAM and apologies from me that I could mot push it as much as I wanted to.
Cheers for K404 superpi 32m tip - gained over 4seconds following those instructions from him using an already well tweaked set-up.
Tnx for 4qman and duallist for helping out with stripping OS's.
Tomorrow - I hook up a 6600GT to the above and try for some HWBOT gold :)
