Im currently running a really small water loop, 3/8ths system, a 120x360 rad and a thermaltake cpu block. Its prooving pretty nice and im getting decent temps clocked at 3.6ghz (i did clock it to 4ghz, but i was getting 70 under load, which i thought was a bit hot.)
I want to cool my gpu's as well now. There are a few things i have thought about, and any ideas would be greatfully accepted.
1./ 2 full block covers providing watercooling to the RAM and the GPU.
2./ 2 passive memory coolers and dedicated GPU water blocks.
3./ 2 passive memory coolers and peltiers on the GPU's.

I really want to use peltiers, but i have never used them before, and im not sure what precautions need to be taken.

Anyone have any ideas, or better suggestions? Should probably mentions its for a pair of 2900's.

Thanks,
MargoB

tec cooling is more trouble than its worth, for a start need to insulate everything, then need one of them meanwell 5 1/4 bay PSU's to power the tec's, and temperatures are never that good anyway.

someone may correct me though, so take my opinion with a grain of salt :)

hmm i haven't really looked into it too much, i just liked there claims of being able to achieve 0 degrees and such like, was going to be an avenue into extreme cooling while i work on building my ss which could take a very long time!
So probably the best solution would be a full water block accross the ram and the gpu. would it be worth putting a 120.1 thermochill rad in after the cpu? also, would it be a wise idea to split the chain using a y splitter so both cards get and intake and then the outtake joins once again to go back t the begining of the system?

Thanks for your quick response :D

You will need to volt mod the card to make it worth while. cover the block in DC4/Liquid electrical tape. Have a beefy PSU or a meanwell PSU to run the TEC.
Ram sinks are only worth it if you are V modding the ram on the card as well which wont get you much of a gain in benchies anyway. It all helps in this game though.

Full cover block = no pelt, worst performance. (EK blocks are the best)
Pelt on card = volt mod. ramsinks not needed
pelt on card with ram and GPU mod, ramsinks and fan = ultimate bench set up.

Normal GPU block and no ram sinks = for quietness or because you can. No performance gain.

I reallly dont think i am able to volt mod my cards, dont get me wrong, i would love to do so, but i have big clumsy hands, and its been a bad week for wreckin hardware, so im not sure i will do that. so does this mean a peltier would be pretty useless to me. and the only thing i would gain from putting a normal block on the card would be silence?

ive used pelts several times, and you can get as good temps from ice in your resiovoir as you can with a 320w pelt. plus it will each eletric for breakfast.

Yip, a pelt would be a waste without volt modding the card. You could ask other members here to volt mod the card for you. Not me though because I have banana hands.

watercooled cards can get you maybe 10mhz more if you are lucky. they also have the benifit of taking heat out of your case.

Does anyone fancy voltmodding my cards for me? im not sure what the going rate is, i am a reasonably guy though :D If anyone fancies being a superhero drop me a pm.

It sounds to me that you'll be best of with basic waterblocks for now. However, if you're thinking of peltier/TEC cooling you'll probably need to beef up your water system a fair bit. I have run a GPU (X800XTPE & 6800U) with a 110W TEC with good results from an ATX PSU, so it is possible. Without vMods it would be a little pointless though as you won't gain much without upping the volts, and of course a dedicated PSU is preffered.
