All hardcore gamers and hardware experts will be very pleased to know that ASUS is working on a Intel 5400 + Intel ESB2E powered workstation motherboard. The Z7S-WS, just like Intel's Skulltrail platform which is all over the news today, adopts two LGA 771 processors, FB-DIMM DDR2 memory (6x slots for up to 24GB memory), and has 2x PCI-e x16 and 1x PCI-e x8 slots. According to the source of the news we should expect the Z7S-WS to come in March for USD $627.

Been eyeing this up for a few weeks if Skulltrail didn't hit the shelves soon or if they're hard to get hold off.

Bet it'll cost about £350 here. :)

I would have thought £400+ how many are they making? I thought skulltrail was going to be limited to a few thousand or something??...

A fair few :) It's a limited market they are aiming for sparkY, 24gb isn't enough for a workstation/server system and I can't remember how many memory channels this board has. Memory bandwidth still isn't as good as a yorkie system. Once you price above £300-350 then it has to be highend memory counts not overclocking and what overclocking options this mobos isn't too special, you can do more with systool and a little bit of VID pad know how ;)

That looks like some odd heatsink mounting system...

Normal Xeon 771 coolers mount through the case/ mobo mount. Sometimes need a special case (CEB form factor).

(you were talking about the cpu coolers weren't you.?) :D

To find the cost here, change the $ to a £ and add 20% to the price.

It's not just the cost of the board - the other components it requires will all add up for sure. No doubt that there may be a few benchers that will still go for it! :waiting:
