Setting up my own VPN???

Hi guys,

I have a server in my house that i wish to setup a VPN so that I can connect to it from overseas, tunnling to my own server accessing data etc. This will also give me privacy when using my laptop at hotels etc,

How do i do this

At my work if we work from home we use something called WatchGuard to VPN to our network then we straight RDP onto our machines..

WatchGuard is a hardware solution though i think

Could you not just setup a VNC server and then use apps like RealVNC to connect.. Not sure how secure this would be though
